The circle I had to go around to get an appointment was almost negligent. I was phoning regarding my 20 month old. I know from experience that 111 and a pharmacist will always say, due to age, they need to be seen at the doctors surgery. I was told no appointments and to call 111 despite me highlighting his age. 111 referred to pharmacist who said, due to age, it needs to be GP. This whole process took 5 hours and left me in floods of tears. The symptoms I described to the receptionist were not mild and were worthy of an appointment. The ludicrous thing was I ended up getting one anyway so there were appointments and I was lied to. The appointment I had was with Luke the paramedic and he was very thorough and we are very pleased with the care I received from him.

Suggested improvements
The receptionists need to know that with infants they need to be seen at the GP especially when rashes and potential tonsillitis symptoms are being described. Please don’t lie to parents about availability and just be transparent about the system. If we have to go in this ridiculous circle then so be it but be transparent about this process.
