I usually hate eye tests and feel really uncomfortable during an eye examination - but this time it was different. The first tests were held by a very sweet, calm and understanding professional, and afterwards the optometrist explained everything to me in a very clear and patient way, even helping me in choosing my new glasses. Great experience!

The tests with the optometrist were all very good, and I have no complaints at all. What I was less satisfied with was the service afterwards. The young woman serving me kept clearly recommending more expensive pairs of glasses which I was not interested in. If I am going to part with a couple of hundred pounds, I want to feel I am receiving a proper service not a sales pitch. There was immediate pressure to 'get this sorted out now', just a few minutes after my eye tests. It made me feel rather uncomfortable, and I felt I wasn't in control. When it came to inputting my details for the glasses I wanted, the young woman admitted that she wasn't certain what she was doing (always reassuring) and called over a colleague. He at least knew what he was doing, but again, the sales pitch was too obvious. I want to feel that I am being well-advised and am getting something which will 'work' and will help me; I don't want to feel that they are just out to 'sell me something'. Unfortunately, that was the feeling I had on this occasion. I paid half of the total amount, as I was entitled to a voucher from my employer for some of the cost. The young woman who had helped me tried to make out they could do this for me as a really special favour, when clearly it is standard practice. Again, not a sales pitch I am going to fall for. There are better ways to make your customers feel special. When I came to collect the glasses a few days later, I could have got away without paying the outstanding amount, and had to remind the young man serving me that I still needed to pay. Fortunately I am honest. I would say: cut down on the sales talk; make it seem as if you are guiding and helping people to come to an important decision. Most people don't want to have to spend huge amounts on glasses, so don't pressure them when they are making that decision. Let them take their time, and don't suggest that every pricey pair which you pick up is better than the cheaper ones which they have chosen themselves. Some salespeople are very good. These just seemed to be a bit too keen to make a sale. I will probably go elsewhere next time.

I damaged my frames and Danni replaced the frames free of charge on this occasion. She was very friendly and I appreciated the gesture.
