My care from the outset was very caring and professional which was especially important having just received my first cancer diagnosis. Andrew was very re-assuring regarding the upcoming radiotherapy treatment and the likely symptoms I would encounter. At one stage during the radiotherapy treatment I did receive some contradictory advice regarding diet and weight maintenance. At the start of the treatment I was advised to follow a tried and tested diet which I did..e.g.. keep off wine and only eat root veg etc.. On one radiotherapy session I was told I was losing weight which was not desirable as my initial setup (the one where tattoos are dotted don your lower body) was based on my weight on that date and therefore needed to be maintained for the full radiotherapy treatment (20 sessions) to ensure the best results. I would suggest that this important balance of diet and maintaining weight whilst on the new temporary diet is outlined and emphasised at the outset to the patient i.e. making sure you eat enough of the new diet to compensate for any loss..(I probably started loosing weight due to my not drinking wine or eating forbidden foods during the radiotherapy!).. Otherwise the treatment went well and the staff in the radiotherapy department were excellent.. Sorry I have gone on a bit here...hope this report is of help to the hospital and other cancer patients..
