24th April 2023

I went to A and E at 2.20 am as was unable to swallow at all. No water, my spittle or food. There were only 4 people ahead of me; foot and leg issues were 2 of them . I was still not seen by 6 am and there seemed no air of efficiency or urgency. The one doctor I saw seemed to taking over 40 mins per patient. I sat in the waiting room feeling so I unwell it was obvious to triage that someone needed to just spend 5 minutes looking in my mouth and send me away with pain killers or antibiotics. I was scared because I could not swallow and said this to triage as when I tried to sleep I kept jolting awake as my throat was closing that’s why I came to A and E Finally it should have been my turn but no one came back into reception for an hour and a half and by this time I was dehydrated, cold and no longer able to sit there so I left broken hearted by what I have always regarded as a wonderful service. I don’t think they were in undated with ambulances and the continued laughing and so forth I could hear from behind the doors did not make believe there was any urgency to see people quickly and efficiently who had waited almost all night. I cut my holiday short to uk flew back to Guernsey and revived treatment there the next morning

Suggested improvements
There seemed to be no desire to get through the work load, see people and move into the next one. There was too much chatting as the doctor escorted patients out chatting to all the relatives which is great but then disappear and no sign of a doctor for hour and half?
