The EPAU staff were amazing, Sam, Hope and Lucy were kind, knowledgeable and very caring. I came up from A&E and they were supportive. I saw a locum who clearly had no idea what he was doing and the EPAU team took control of the situation and made sure I had good care and took the time to explain and talk to me along the way. I cannot praise the team enough. They deal with people who are in a terribly difficult situation and they are absolutely exceptional at what they do.

Suggested improvements
The locum doctor I saw was shocking. He clearly did not know what to do, both myself and the EPAU team had to remind him repeatedly to take swabs. He then stood in front of me and mixed up the swabs and the tubes, literally standing there crossing them over in mid air trying to work out which went in which tube in front of me. He told me my cervix was open which we had previously discussed was not what we wanted and then claimed he wasn’t sure. I have a particular set of issues and I had a feeling he wasn’t telling the truth as he performed the exam very quickly which is impossible. The registrar who later came was unable to perform the examination and the next doctor I have seen at EPAU was also unable to perform the examination. The EPAU staff took the matter into their own hands and called the registrar. Given the sensitive circumstances all patients who visit EPAU are in the locum did not deliver an acceptable standard of care but also did not perform his medical duties to a standard that is acceptable at the baseline level.
