After my mum passed away we left the room briefly and then we came back in once the nurses said we could. When we walked In the nurses had pulled the duvet down and crossed her arms and she was holding a rose. We felt like we didn’t know that was going to happen and it was quite shocking having seen our mum pass peacefully and with blankets around her, to then walk back in 10 minutes later once the nurses had done their checks to see her In a completely different position it didn’t feel right. Maybe next time consult the family on what they would like as it was quite a shocking and upsetting.

Response from St Mary's Hospital

Thank you for your feedback and your concerns have been passed on to the clinical team. Our sincerest apologies that the family were not consulted as we agree this would have ensured clearer communication between both the family and the nursing team. We will ensure that next of kin and family members are consulted to ensure they feel as comfortable as possible when returning to see their loved one.
