Review of Therapies & Wellbeing written by a patient

The care I received was fantastic! I started seeing a counselor from St Helena Hospice after my mum was diagnosed with terminal cancer. I was suffering from anxiety but talking to my counselor really helped me to vocalize all of the issues that had built up inside me. I am now more able to think about things in a different light and recognize unhealthy situations. Most of all has taught me to not be afraid of asking for help. I am now a lot stronger as a person and I'm able to deal with and control my anxiety. I know that I can always go to st Helena Hospice whenever I need help.

I received fantastic support from my attendance at the care for carers group, back from the facilitators and the members of the group. I felt reassured that there will be many resources out there to help support me during my husband's final journey. I formed some new friendships during the way. Can't thank them enough.

Kept it lighthearted, didn't make you feel stupid if you got it wrong.

Being able to talk to someone outside you family and friends. Someone that Knows nothing about you and your situation.

I felt very much at ease with my Councillor. She was very kind and understanding and I found I could talk and say anything to her that I found difficult to say to my family. I really enjoyed my weekly sessions and feel so much better for them. I came away from them feeling a lot more positive about the future.

This was my first visit. The clinical nurse specialist was very easy to talk and I look forward to meeting her again in 4 weeks time.
