Review of North London Community Stoma Nurse Team
9th November 2022

I found the stoma nurses helpful in reassuring me after coming out of hospital. I saw Fran a few days after discharge and she gave me advice on how to deal with issues I’d been having post surgery. My next visit was with Barbara and she helped me try different products to help with issues I’d had with bags. Both nurses were kind, friendly and knowledgable and I am grateful for the support that they gave me.

Suggested improvements
I don’t think that there is anything that needs to change

I have just had a ileostomy bag fit on the 1st of September and it’s been the best thing I have ever had in my life as I have been suffering with diverticulitis for to long and this bag has given me a new life and the support I have from chesterfield hospital and from Helen and Alison the storma team is amazing not is to small or to big you can ring them any time and they are always there for you so I would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who has and will continue to support myself and everyone els

Suggested improvements

I was supported throughout the 3 years I had an ileostomy with the upmost compassion and respect, the stoma nurses I've had was full of knowledge about stomas and my condition, anytime I would run into issues I was seen to in a timely manner and resolved my issues also. I would confidently say they have made my life so much better with managing my stoma.

Suggested improvements
The only issue I ever had is not being able to be seen in person as often but this was due to COVID-19.

After being diagnosed with cancer a short while ago, and taking into account my mental health issues, it has been a challenging time for me. Fiona Holtham is my appointed stoma nurse and as far as I am concerned, she has ticked every box and deserves 5 stars for her attention to detail, knowledge, reassurance, easy to talk with, "bedside manner" and making me feel comfortable every time I have seen her, especially considering my whole stoma experience was a shock to me as it was needed after an emergency operation. Every Health Centre needs a Fiona! Thank you :)

Suggested improvements
Nothing! Perfect as it is! Unless you start giving out free chocolates :)

Nurse Breege O'Neill has been my Stoma Care Nurse since my emergency surgery which took place 7 weeks ago. The care I have received from Breege has been truly excellent. She has dealt with me in a very professional and courteous manner and has cared for me with compassion and great kindness. Breege has been very informative regarding my circumstances, and answered any questions which I have. If I required any advice before her visit was due, I could always contact her and she has always responded promptly. Breege is a truly lovely person, she is calm and measured and because of her nature she instills confidence to the patient regarding the day to day dealings with a stoma. The service that the stoma nurses provide is excellent and really needed. After being discharged from hospital, one really needs confidence to get back on your feet and knowing that there is a wonderful team to help you is a very good feeling.
