The medical and reception side of my 2 days of visits to determine if I had DVT was very good. Ambulance transport to the hospital was excellent- I was advised I would be picked up around 0930 for a 1330 appointment. The inwards trip was good, the 2 hours wait for the return trip not so good. The second day ambulance trips were abominable. Instead of around 1200 for a 1330 appointment the ambulance arrived at I hurriedly readied myself and the ambulance left a 1046. We travelled around 10 miles, parked and waited almost 3/4 hour for the next patient. No explanation was given! The third patient a few more miles away was ready for departure in a minute or so. Not a good experience on the outwards ambulance trip. However the return trip was much worse. My medical exam finished at 1405 and I was advised to expect my home trip to be around 1430. 1430 passed and I was advised the ambulance was on its way to pick me up. By 1500 hours and no ambulance but advised 1530. By that time and no ambulance I was being advised that the unit normally closes at 1600, but only if all patients have left for home. By 1600 and no ambulance I tried to get a taxi several times before success. I feel sure that terrible service was not planned as a part privatisation of the ambulance service and would now question why it was implemented. NOT VALUE FOR TAXPAYERS MONEY!!!
