I have been visiting New Cross Hospital quite regularly recently. From the team that carries out mammograms, biopsies, staff in the Beynon Centre, to the surgical team, breast care nurses, health care nurses and Admin team, I cannot fault anyone or any part of the dedicated service I have received. Everyone I have come across, or been treated by, has been friendly, professional, understanding and supportive. Not once have I felt like I was wasting anyone’s time, or that I was being a nuisance. I was fortunate enough to have my own room and I did not feel excluded or forgotten, and felt I received exactly the same treatment even though I was not on the main ward. Everyone was extremely busy and on the go at all times, but they remained cheerful and polite when they must have been exhausted, popping in from time to time in between meal times an medication to make sure I was ok and to ask if I needed anything. I met quite a few staff during my appointments and stay and am totally satisfied with how I was treated throughout. I can not fault my surroundings and how I was treated before, during and after my admission.

New Cross hospital has been a disappointment in my experience. There is poor communication between departments, poor attitude from nurses, poor duty of care towards patients, and a lack of empathy generally. The standard of nursing in this hospital needs to be closely reviewed. On paper they may pass necessary requirements and tick the right boxes, however, in practice patients are treated like mannequins in a bed instead of human beings. Patients should be treated as a priority. They are not there to serve the needs of the nurses. The nurses are there to serve the patients, and they should do so with utmost care, patience and empathy. Nurses should not reprimand, talk down to, or attempt to, directly or indirectly, take away a patient's dignity. I am appalled at the lack of urgency in responding to patient's needs, whether it is requiring blood transfusions, medications or other interventions. Patients are often left to sit in discomfort or pain for longer periods than are acceptable. Where is the leadership, accountability and scrutiny of the medical practices in this hospital? There are also far too many times when nurses are hanging around desks when patients require care. More time and attention on patients is required. There needs to be more emphasis on patient-centered care, attention to the requirements of the individual, and a better standard of professionalism across the board. Most doctors I have encountered are actually quite decent, but the nurses are often slow at following through on doctor's requests and diminish the hospital's standards as a result. A professional, empathetic nurse should be the standard, but at New Cross hospital you are lucky to find yourself in the care of one.

I recently had a tumour removed from my breast. The care I received could not be faulted. The staff looking after me showed care and compassion. They were well organised and kept me informed every step of the way.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in October by 22nd December I had my operation. The care I had received was very good.I had help if I phoned the hospital even if they were busy they phoned back the same day. Dr Raghavan was brilliant she treated me with care and answered all my questions. I couldn't ask for better care
