This appointment was a travesty. To start with, the practitioner called us in ten minutes late, with no apology. At no point during the appointment did he introduce himself, so we had no idea who he was. We were seen for a total of 20 minutes of what was supposed to be an hour-long, initial appointment. The practitioner did not engage with my husband (the patient) but, instead, talked to me about him in the third person, as if my husband were not present. There was a total lack of respect for my husband, who had pinned his hopes on this appointment for the three months we had waited for it. The practitioner clearly had absolutely no understanding of depression, he didn't listen, and made numerous, unfounded assumptions which only served to increase my husband's already elevated anxiety levels. All that was offered was even more medication, on top of the numerous tablets already prescribed, and a follow-up appointment with a locum in four months' time. My husband left the appointment feeling belittled, degraded, and with greater levels of despair, depression and anxiety. This appointment left my husband's dignity in tatters and, as a result, he has resorted to self-harming. This appointment was a complete waste of time and caused more harm than good.
