This was my first visit to the New A&E department and I was impressed with it's layout and the staff deserves credit, considering the work load and patients needs. Yes, we could all complain about the waiting times because the reality is people are not being seen by their own GP or being told to go to the A& E . I don't know how one could cut the waiting time down when this is happening. Yes, I was there for 6 1/2 hours but I understand and seen the pressure on this particular department. Again I take my hat off to them and thank them for looking after me.
Suggested improvements
The only thing I really detested even with a large sign was the smoking outside the main door and the smell coming in when the doors opened. As an ex-smoker I understand their needs but please erect something for them away from the main entrance.

Despite a long wait caused by you being busy. I was treated extremely well. In particular I would like to thank all the nurses and Doctors. In particular I would like to thank Dr Mo for his thoroughness, clarity and excellent bedside manner.

As a parent in with a young child where you cannot leave them to pop to the shop. I was there from 8am until 11 at night and myself and my child were only being offered 1 drink all day. By the time we had got into the ward from A&E we have also missed lunch so my child was offered food until tea, luckily I had time to grab snacks for my child before I went but if that wasn’t the case my child would have gone hungry.

I understand staff are busy but if there are facilities on a ward to make drinks etc if they could let you know and show you where so you can grab yourself x

DPOW is a fantastic hospital with wonderful, empathetic staff at all levels.
I am extremely proud and delighted that we have such a wonderful group of people at all levels of the hospital - we are incredibly fortunate to have DPOW as our local hospital
