I have a physical disability and was told it was a ‘walk-in’ clinic and they couldn’t do anything to help the fact that I couldn’t sit for more than 15 minutes, sitting causes severe pain as I’m just 3 weeks post op after major spinal surgery. No empathy was shown by the staff. I was finally found a bed so I could lay, however that was only after some debate by the staff and a 2 hour wait. I was also told I’d have to give the bed up if it was needed elsewhere.
I understand there’s probably a shortage of beds and things are really difficult right now but saw no real compassion or had any kind words from the nursing staff. I was told I might have to wait 5 hours again today, I don’t mind waiting my turn but it would physically harm me to sit for that length of time. I told the nurse that I’d have to leave and she read me the riot act about blood clots, rightly so, I do understand the severity and risk. She was definitely not happy but couldn’t seem to understand that I actually can’t sit for that long, I wasn’t trying to be difficult or queue jump. I was only there because A & E told me to attend. I had spoken to the nurse in charge but with no response from her, she simply walked away.
The doctor, Naja (?) was incredibly kind and helpful and could see how I was struggling, he went out of his way to ensure I wasn’t there, in pain, any longer than needed. He also made sure I was informed and agreed with his decision on my treatment.
No chairs were being cleaned as people left.
I was amazed and very grateful when a lady came with a tea trolley but was shocked when she served a mentally challenged lady who had a big Nil By Mouth sign next to her head. Five members of the nursing staff were stood the other side of the bay window drinking tea but didn’t notice.
Communication between departments seems non existent. I was told yesterday that today’s scan was for my gallbladder but when I got there I was told it was a scan for a blood clot on my lung! I knew and was told differently at A & E but wasn’t believed and they insisted on me seeing a particular speciality doctor because the paperwork said so.
Polite staff always happy to help
I gave my answers because the service was amazing and the staff were helpful and friendly with every step.
From the moment I walked through the door of A&E at Dianna Princess of Wales hospital (DPoW) to the moment I walked out post operative, my treatment was outstanding. The A&E nurse(s) were amazing, administered pain relief and got me to see the A&E consultant very quickly. I was taken to X-ray and the results were shown to me and the damage done explained. I was made an appointment for orthopedics the next morning and was referred to The consultant Mr Khalid Sharif the day after; his knowledge is outstanding, identified the seriousness of my injury stating that surgery would be needed to repair a badly separated shoulder, within 3 days of me being seen at A&E I was being operated on by Mr Sharif. It is thanks to His skill and that of all the supporting staff at DPoW that I have full use of my arm and shoulder.
A massive thank you to all involved in my care, truly first class.

The doctor/Consultant (Dr/Mr Ali) was excellent, and deserves 5 stars *
My appointment was at 1600. I was totally ignored by nurses, who were up and down the corridor continuously. Although I prompted them after I had waited an hour and again after 90 minutes, they just took my name and never came back to me.
The Senior nurse (returning from other duties) after my 90+ minute wait, was the only person to take any interest, to apologise and ensure that I was seen.
I left the department 2 hours after arriving.
Zara and Britney was lovely, very friendly and caring towards my son thank you
The wait was also better as you wasn’t waiting a long time and wasn’t waiting with all adults who are poorly too.
From the moment I walked through the door (immediate referral from Louth community team) I was met with warmth and friendliness. Every member of the team who looked after us for our 6 day stay went the extra mile. Every decision about being induced, every medical issue that arose and every procedure under taken was explained to me.
From the type of medication I could have, to the next steps on my recovery, right through to breast feeding support, I felt valued, listened to and well and truly cared for.
It is thanks to Carla for the quick decision making skills that meant our little boy was safely delivered.
The whole team were incredible from Becky, Laura, Carla, Lisa, Jenny, Cara, Louise and everyone we were cared for by ..and made me feel positive about every part of my birth, recovery and return home. Our little boy is doing really well thanks to the 121 support provided and all the encouragement from the whole team.
Thankyou
