Review of Emergency Care Centre DPOW
22nd July 2021

After calling 111 I was advised to go to A&E for severe back pain. The lady on the phone told me to ask for somewhere to lay as the pain was that bad I couldn't sit down. I arrived at the hospital to a queue in which I had to stand outside in for over 90 minutes in such excruciating pain I was crying. Eventually I got to the reception and I couldn't even bend down to the microphone to tell the lady behind the desk what was wrong with me. She seemed very annoyed by this. I informed her of my pain level and that I couldn't sit down and she shut me down and told me it was not the hospitals policy to allow people to lay down whilst they wait. I tried to explain that I couldn't sit and that the pain was becoming unbearable but she just told me to go sit. I had to stand in the waiting area for another 2 hours crying. I went to the reception again during this time because I was feeling worse. They told me to sit down again even though I couldn't.

Suggested improvements
More compassion from the receptionist. I understand they are busy but I felt that they could have helped me more.

My daughter was admitted on her 3rd birthday the A&E nurses were amazing with her gave her a teddy bear and stickers. She then went on to rainbow ward where the nurse there gave her a present and a card very lovley staff.

Suggested improvements
Only ONE complaint the giraffe room is too hot during the summer months the window doesn't open to allow any air, not sure if that's because it's a childs room BUT it was very very stuffy and too hot

I was triage at louth and sent through to grimsby as a level 2 VERY URGENT. I arrived at Grimsby and left in line to queue outside the unit for over 30 minutes. Once I got to booking in the receptionist read my letter I arrived with and sent me to sit in the waiting room cubicle. The cubicle was disgustingly dirty. I sat in those conditions for over 2 hours while watching people coming and going with minor injuries or drunk being treated before myself who had chest pains and a query on an ecg. I had a stroke in October 2020 but where was the priority. After 3 hours I could bear it no long and left with no answers and fearing the worse but not more so than staying in a place where I should of felt safe.

Suggested improvements
Priority and care and someone who reads letters who is qualified to do so let clean conditions at a time it is upmost.

The main negative was having to wait outside in a corridor to get into the unit. I was there with my 10 year old so was very awkward to sit in 1 cubicle with her on 1 seat.

Suggested improvements
A parent and child seating section. A better system to get in to the unit. I never heard them call me forward to the desk.

Review of B4 Ringfenced
20th July 2021

In January 2021 I was in B4 recovering from a complicated nephrectomy for renal cancer by urology consultant Mr Rogers and I had a very positive experience despite it being a difficult time for me and my family. The care from the doctors, nurses and support staff in theatre and on the wards was excellent. I felt safe and cared for. My family want to convey our gratitude and respect to the excellent local NHS service and especially the urology service. Thank you so much.

Suggested improvements
The care was excellent.
