Review of Community Palliative Care Team written by a family member

Diagnosis of our mum's brain cancer was 6.11.19. She was discharged from hospital a week later. Sadly mum's health deteriorated rapidly and she died on 30.11.19. Hospice at home helped mum and us, her family, at the later stage of that period. We can't fault their care and devotion and, indeed, since mum died we were reassured to know that there is someone we can contact if we, the family, need to talk to someone. Although only for a very short time, hospice at home's care and support was invaluable.

Sheryl came to see us this morning and was very kind and compassionate. She was very good at assessing where help might be needed and made some very useful suggestions regarding equipment and where adaptations could be made. I am sure we shall benefit in the future as a result of this visit.

I received excellent care and staff are so patient focussed. It makes, what can be a stressful condition, much easier to deal with. Staff fully appreciate the emotional damage that lymphoedema can have. Caring and sensitive but firm enough when needed.

We felt as a family well looked after by hospice at home, even though it was only a few days your carer were present at time of death and were supportive to the family.

I have no reason to think of how care could be improved. I feel that the care I have been given is first class. The staff are very friendly and everything is explained in great detail. I could not wish for any better treatment than I have been given.

When we arrived home from Cynthia Spencer my husband was frightened by the number of different carers, nurses and doctors walking in through the front door. The hospice at home nurses and personal were very very nice as were the Marie Curie nurses. When in Cynthia Spencer my husband felt rather abandoned as he was in a corner of a ward with 5 or 6 beds by himself.

I am the daughter of my father who was looked after by the hospice at home team, sadly he passed away but without the help I received by the team I would not have coped with by my dad's passing. I was treated with kindness and respect and nothing was too much trouble for them. I felt confident in leaving my father for short period's of time whilst he was in their care, I felt very vulnerable at this time and the team went above and beyond to help me with any issues I was struggling with. I cannot thank hospice at home enough and I would not have got through the few days prior to my dad's passing without them.
