During the last five of my father's life, we received for a few hours each day. He was asleep most of the time during those visits. But it gave me such a relief (tried as I was from many sleepless nights) to get out in the fresh air, knowing he was being well cared for while I was out. During one of the visits, dad was even given a shave. I was so grateful for your care, your concern, your advice.

Suggested improvements
If we could have received visits before these five days, it would have been better, also, I know you tried to get me some overnight help, but it just was not possible. (I did get help from [name removed] and [name removed] for one night, before the five days). Overnight visits would have man it better.

Response from Cynthia Spencer Hospice

Thank you for your feedback. We work very hard with referrers to try and ensure they refer to the service as soon as they feel a patient may be deteriorating, this can sometimes be difficult to predict in advance or the patient may deteriorate more quickly than expected. We are working with the wider system to look at identifying the level of support available over 7 days and over a 24 hour period, whilst this work is in its infancy, feedback such as this can feed into the decisions on how support is provided going forward
