I am writing on behalf of my mother who is unable to write this herself. She received excellent care from the moment her transfer was arranged from the Sussex County Hospital Brighton to Newhaven Downs Community Ward. She was treated with the utmost courtesy and kindness even though she was confused and disorientated. The transfer was carefully explained to her and took place smoothly and quickly. On arrival she was settled into a clean spacious room on her own. When I visited, the staff were unfailingly friendly and helpful and always took time to answer our queries and assist in any way they could. I noticed they always treated my Mum with dignity even though she could not always engage properly due to "failing marbles" as she would put it! They made me feel that nothing was too much trouble. This was an excellent half way house between hospital and home, where gentle exercises under close supervision enabled her to become sufficiently mobile to return to her home, thus freeing up her hospital bed for more acute cases. I cannot thank the staff enough and sincerely hope that this newly opened unit will be able to continue serving the local community the way it did my mother. Thank you!
