The communication on plans and treatment and actions post ward round are really poor. Night staff do not tend to interact ith the patients much - some do but most do not. The key named worker does not do check ins with the patient and always seem too busy for staff to give 1:15 The OT is set at a very basic level which does not suit a lot of patients.

Suggested improvements
The communication to patients is very poor and leads to increased anxiety. The night staff miss checks which causes issues of not feeling safe. The staff not sleeping infront of patients would be a bon{ } as would higher level of OT therapies or these to suit all patients.

Response from Berrywood Hospital

We are really sorry to hear this, we take sleeping on shift and missing the checks very seriously and I will feed this back to the team. We are planning on bringing in some more structured activities for the evenings and weekends to supplement the therapy that happens in the working week. We have started putting up ward round times and introducing a morning meeting with the OT and ward staff to improve communication and install some structure.
