Review of Endoscopy (BDGH) written by a patient
5th July 2017

On the day of the procedure I had requested a sedative & was told that this would not be a problem. The nurse who booked me in was very kind & reassuring and went through my details and the procedure thoroughly. A different nurse fitted the cannula through which the sedative was to be administered. I was then put into a separate room to wait for the doctor to ask me to sign the consent form for the procedure. Following this I was shown into the treatment room where the back of my throat was sprayed twice. I was asked to lay down and the doctor jabbed something into my cannula hard, this hurt. He then administered the sedative via the cannula, jabbing again hard. I told the staff that hurt, they glanced at the cannula but carried on. I had been told by the admissions nurse that the sedative would be given a few moments to work, this was not the case. Immediately after the sedative had been administered the endoscope was pushed straight down my throat. The sedative had not been given chance to work and indeed never kicked in. I suspect the cannula wasn't fitted properly - the sedative never made it into my bloodstream. I was trying to vomit the endoscope up, there was water coming out of my mouth, my eyes were watering. The two nurses in the room were very kind & reassuring, the doctor spoke to me harshly and told me that unless I calmed down he couldn't look properly. But the gagging reflex is automatic, my body was determined to expel that tube! However, he was pushing on come what may! The results of the test were 'normal' but having been through this horrendous experience I have no faith in the test results. I feel that I was too distressed for that procedure to have been carried out properly. I found the experience extremely distressing. In my opinion the doctor was unnecessarily rough, insensitive & unsympathetic. I had an identical procedure at Montagu Hospital, Mexborough in early 2009, I couldn't have had two more different experiences, so I have something to compare with what happened this morning. I'm glad I did not know what was coming & hope I never have to go through that again.

Having had an accident was admitted via A&E wither a smashed right hip.Operation was carried out three days later due to Warfarin dosage.Still on the ward receiving relevant therapy. First class treatment from all the staff including the full nursing team who show such kindness and consideration. A credit to their professions and the NHS should be proud of the service of all those involved in my treatment. Looking forward to a full recovery in the fullness of time.

I was dealt with for a somewhat embarrassing condition. The nurse and consultant who attended to me were superb. They were informative and the interaction with them was a true pleasure. I am deeply grateful to them both.

The ward was very busy (full) so the I didn't actually see any midwife or support the whole time I was on the ward from 8pm on the day I gave birth until my discharge the following afternoon. I wish that I had received more support with breast feeding.

Review of Ward B6 written by a patient
26th May 2017

I attended the ward to recover from barriatric surgery . It may be more comfortable for some patients if all the barriatric patients were together to miminise any anxiety at meal times . However this is the only thing slightly negative that I can comment on , the staff from all levels of support staff , student nurses , staff nurses , the sister and nurse practioners care was all second to none , job well done . In particular I would really like to say thank you to staff nurses , Helen & Adam , Sister Kim and nurse practinoner louise . They made my stay as enjoyable as possible under the circumstances .

My wife ,Marjorie D. Smith, was transferred to A & E from Cardiology. Both the nursing staff & doctors were extremely courteous & sensitive in their treatment & advice. A credit to the hospital. (This review is written on my wife's behalf)

My wife had an E.C.G. conducted by Claire Wright. Her pleasant manner & sensitivity put my wife at ease. This lady was highly professional & is a credit to the department. Our thanks for ensuring my wife's visit was as comfortable as possible. (This review is written on my wife's behalf)
