I was directed to A & E by the 111 service. I was immediately triaged at reception and shortly after was given an ECG and bloods were taken. Dept was very busy. However I was transferred onto a trolley and put on oxygen. I had a long wait for the Duty Doctor who was seeing numerous patients. However he carried out a detailed assessment and organised an Xray. The Doctor discussed with my wife and myself the possibilities for my low oxygen level and poor respiration together with the history of my problems with COPD and more particularly worsening situation over the course of the past 2/3 weeks. He commenced a course of medication and had me transfected to CDU at approximately midnight. At 01.00 a lady doctor discussed further treatment. She arranged a CT scan for the morning and an injection later that night. I was put on a nebuliser, antibiotics and water medication and Prednisolone and had the scan in the morning. I was on 24 hour oxygen throughout Friday and Saturday. I transferred to C1 on Saturday and came off the 24 hour oxygen later that day. Eventually my sats recovered sufficiently for me to return home on Sunday afternoon. My care throughout was excellent from Nurses, Doctors ancillary staff. They are a real credit to DBH. The catering was absolutely outstanding. The content, preparation and presentation was very impressive. I have never enjoyed hospital catering so much in a long life of experience. Many many thanks and congratulatons on an excellent service.
