Share review of Bassetlaw District General Hospital
The above scores and ratings relate to the care provided after 9 am on a day in mid April. The care and attention was faultless - we were monitored regularly and kept well informed. The midwife and the student midwife were reassuring, calming, caring and absolutely professional.
This is in absolute contrast to the care received from the staff on the previous shift. We'd been told they weren't busy and so the lack of care cannot be explained by a lack of resource. The midwife and her colleagues were focussed on the K2 system only rather than any compassion for my wife. Of particular concern is the issue of 'fresh eyes'. This is simply not working at night. The staff see it as an administrative task and not an important one. Several times I watched in shock as 'fresh eyes' came in and completed the forms on screen without looking at any data. On one occasion, the other member of the team asked the midwife what times she should record - and entered three different times for fresh eyes when in fact she had not even been in the room. This approach of focussing on being seen to do the job is unacceptable.
