I’m a normally fit and healthy person but every now and then I do need to see a doctor and I absolutely dread it. I work full time and have children so just don’t have time to sit on hold to the practice for hours before anyone answers. I recently rang up on the 3rd of the month for an appointment for something that is really bothering me and they said the next available appointment was the 27th!!! I mean, that is simply ridiculous. I was told to try ringing back at 8am the next day for an urgent appt but (1) see above comment re not having time to sit on hold for hours on end which is what happens when you ring at 8am and (2) it’s not urgent in the sense I’m not dying and other people will undoubtedly have more urgent health issues, but it is simply not acceptable that I have to wait almost a month to see a doctor!

Suggested improvements
See above. You need to recruit more receptionists and more doctors or reduce your patient list!

Response from The James Cochrane Practice

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, our phone lines can get extremely busy, especially in the morning. We do have an option for patients with non-urgent issues (if they don’t feel they need to speak to us today) to contact us online if they have access to the internet; the link is on our website, or find it here https://florey.accurx.com/p/A82026. Our patient list always remains open for any patients that wish to join the practice, and we are not able to reduce our list; we do have more clinicians joining the team soon which should provide a little additional capacity, and we currently have 2 open vacancies within our Care Navigator team. We will be looking at all feedback to establish areas for improvement, so thank you for taking the time to share yours with us.

I visited the practice yesterday 14th October in the morning around 10am. I had stitches removed from my foot with a lovely caring nurse that told me to report to reception that I need it a sick note and had the flu jab. The receptionist who I haven’t seen before couldn’t be bothered with me, she clearly didn’t want me there. Taking to me like I was inferior, I never felt this small and so insulted before this experience. She kept repeating the same to me like I couldn’t understand her the first time and dismissing me, talking in a very rude and aggressive way. I was so shocked I forgot half of what the nurse told me to report to reception. I rang the bell to come back in to tell her what I forgot she again was very rude and clearly didn’t want to open the door to me but eventually did, again she was was so rude that I left there shaking and actually told her she was a very rude person before I left. No matter what we all going through there is no need to treat people this way, respect and kindness are free and in this type of jobs even more important. I have worked with customer service all my life and never encounter such a shocking behaviour.

Suggested improvements
My intention is with writing this review other people mostly the vulnerable don’t have to go through what I did yesterday. Absolutely appalling.

My family and I are now leaving this drs practice. We can never get an appointment with an actual doctor - even when our baby is poorly. Same story we are told time and time again - no appointments but you can see a nursing practitioner! The former are pretty lousy - but the latter are even worse. I imagine it is just a matter of time before a serious medical incident - life lost - occurs due the atrocious care given by this practice.

They were always nice and amazing with kids just never helped, never seen things that other doctors have seen straight away! They always said things like 'he'll be fine' or when I asked eg.why is my son has high fever for weeks , they answered 'I don't know what's wrong, probably a virus' ([name removed]) or 'no clue' ([name removed]) etc. so we left the surgery and it came out my son got enlarged adenoid and even turbonate so he was referred to ENT since and gets help. So even if they are very kind and friendly, they weren't very professional.
