It takes too long to arrange an appointment. When I called the surgery I was number 10 in the cue which took about 30 minutes before I could speak to anyone. A telephone appointment was then arranged with the doctor. I had just completed my last radiotherapy session for prostrate cancer and was in great pain with a urinary infection and other symptoms from the treatment.

Suggested improvements
After speaking to the doctor a prescription was quickly sent to my local Pharmacy which was all good. However, the prescription was not that effective, (I was in a lot of pain especially during the night and was at the point of driving to the local A & E but decided to give the prescription time to work. What I would like to have been able to do is call the surgery the next day on an emergency number and speak to a doctor right away to provide feedback and request further help without having to join a queue again.

Response from The Glebe Surgery

Thank you for your feedback, and I am sorry that you have experienced these problems. We are aware that there are currently long waits to get through to us on the phone, and that patients are being cut off. It is a long-standing issue that we have tried to resolve with our current phone company but they have been unable to locate the problem. We will be moving to a new phone system by the end of the year that should give all our patients a better experience.
