The main problem for me is having to write about the practice as if it were one but in reality there are two separate surgeries in two buildings. I find the Lupus Street surgery unpleasant to use on account of the receptionist staff... some are OK sometimes, but the majority are surly, unfriendly and behave as if it wouldn't matter if I dropped dead in front of them. They frequently chat amongst themselves and condescendingly deign to speak to whoever is next in the queue as if the next patient is being done a favour. There are exceptions to this of course, when it is apparent the receptionist already has an obviously previously established rapport with whoever, but normally my previous observations apply. Now at Vincent Square, it is totally different, I feel respected, I have a sense that whatever I ask for is being taken seriously and without exception, unless a temporary member of staff from Lupus Street is there, what ever I am told will happen... happens! Yes it's as much as any trip to see someone about my health can be considered pleasant... it makes the difference and is much less a nerve racking experience, knowing I will be treated with a sense of dignity and respect. Which again brings me onto the Doctors... I don't want to fall foul of anybody but there again is a massive difference in the way I feel treated by some of them. Some are courteous, understanding and make me feel respected for the knowledge I have about my own body which shouldn't be surprising after 68 years of living in it, especially with all the complications I have... and some are downright dismissive and arrogant and make me feel as if they don't know what they are doing with something I value very highly... my life!
