Patford House gives me always outstanding care and contrasts with very average care received in past surgeries up to moving to Calne five years ago. It’s standards of care are exceptional from a staff that never fails to go the extra mile for patients despite the inordinate pressures it faces from a financial NHS model that is virtually unworkable owing to very poor political support and lack of governmental courage to improve the Service fundamentally. The now retired senior partner Dr Harris and now his successor Dr Bowen show outstanding abilities both medically and in the management of the service here in Calne, so much so that I would be loathe to leave the town for a new practice elsewhere at my age of 81 to risk a new surgery to me. This is a consistent experience of high quality throughout the practice over time and includes the very high standards of ALL the staff one encounters there. I’m a very luck patient to have the standards of an excellent traditional private practice at the costs to me of a ‘FREE’ service. Reform of NHS financing is way way overdue and we are so lucky to have the care we do have despite all the obstacles of the current inadequate basis of its financing.
