I am registered disabled and have a long term chronic pain condition. In the past few weeks I have been extremely poorly, first I tried to get a home visit, but apparently I hadn’t got ill at the right time for that. Then I tried to see the Dr a few days later when I could get out of bed, by the time I rang (9.45am) all that was offered was 7pm with the Nurse Practioner, who was lovely but informed me that I had a chest, ear and sinus infection! A few days earlier if I’d been seen maybe it wouldn’t have got that far. In the past few months I have also had my GP changed without being informed. But the most upsetting and disappointing thing was having my medications changed without any consultation whatsoever. Not realising this, I am now running out and cannot reorder them! My visit to the GP this morning (not my GP as she’s not in) couldn’t do anything about this at all. Although very nice and polite I have still come away with medications that I need and cannot order! What has happened to the GP that would see you all the time, get to know you, spend more than 10 minutes with you if that’s what was needed? Do a home visit later in the day if you were that sick instead of telling me to ring 111 and putting the strain on the emergency services (which I didn’t). It’s just so money orientated now. How can a GP get to know you in 10 minuets? I now have to wait 3 weeks to see my new GP and try to get my medications sorted, but what am I supposed to do in the meantime? To all GPs, is this really what you signed up for? Or the old fashioned GP that new his/her patients and their families? I would not recommend this practice to anyone at the moment.
