I suffered from gout for many years and was usually prescribed indomethacin. Which did work ok but had quite serious consequences if taken for a sustained period. I was eventually prescribed, about ten years ago, allopurinol (300mg) one tablet per day and I have never had gout since. It has no noticeable side effects in my case and i cannot find any fault with it.
