Robin Jones has been nothing short of Godsend in my life! If I had allowed myself to be treated the way the oncologists in my town, Birmingham, wanted to treat me, I would not be here today to be writing this review. I had a shadow in my lung one year after undergoing hysterectomy for leiomyosarcoma. My family contacted Robin Jones, who had just returned from the USA (America's loss!), and he readily agreed for me to be referred to him (by my G.P.). I was, and continue to be, seen as an NHS patient. The MDT at the Royal Marsden Hospital decided to take the surgical line, necessitating removal of one half of my lung, because the shadow was deep inside, close to the heart. A fantastic team at the Royal Brompton Hospital (across the road from Royal Marsden Hospital) undertook my operation. The metastatic leiomyosarcoma was successfully removed in an operation lasting more than four hours. None of this would have happened without management of my case by Robin Jones. I continue to attend the Royal Marsden Hospital (three years after my lung operation), for follow-up CT scans. Dr. Robin Jones is not only an extremely competent doctor, up-to-date with the latest, he is a most compassionate man, very pleasant, with a fantastic bed-side manner. I always attend with my husband and my son with me, and Dr. Jones gives us totally un-hurried time to ask any questions. I would heartily recommend Dr. Robin Jones to anyone who asked me for a good sarcoma specialist.

I ahve been attending the Royal Marsden with my husband for 5 years. His condition (metastatic leiomyosarcoma) necessitates regular checks which have the potential for the hospital visits to be very stressful. We are immensely fortunate that my husband's care is led by Dr Robin Jones whose calm, friendly manner ensures that we both feel that we are the only patients to matter to him during the consultation. Indeed, Dr Jones has even telephoned us at home to check on our well-being. We both feel able to ask any questions and have complete confidence that the optimum treatment and care are those recommended by Dr Jones. There is, of course, the option to have the checks conducted at a more local hospital but we prefer to travel to London for the privilege of seeing Dr Jones. I can think of nothing that would improve on his care and unhesitatingly recommend him to other patients.

Following surgery for the removal of a sarcoma in 2013 at the Royal Marsden, I underwent radiotherapy and returned to work. The discovery of mestastes in 2015 led to my joining the Royal Marsden clinic run by Dr Robin Jones whom I see three or four times a year for a scan and consultation. From the outset Dr Jones has demonstrated complete integrity and clear professional judgement. He is a doctor in whom I have have total faith and for whom I have complete respect. Caring, sincere and wise he understands only too well what the patient is thinking and always been able to set my mind at rest. He answers questions clearly and thoroughly. His total dedication, integrity and sound judgement should never be either doubted or questioned.

I have been treated for cancer at the Royal Marsden for the last five years and have had Dr Robin Jones as my primary oncologist for the last three years. Since then I see him every couple of months and have been through numerous different treatments under his direction, including three separate rounds of chemotherapy. I think the world of Robin and can’t praise him highly enough for his professionalism and knowledge and above all for his tremendous humanity and compassion. Firstly, I had a rare type of sarcoma and then secondly I was diagnosed later with a completely separate but also rare type of cancer. Despite this second type not being directly in Robins area of specialism, i decided to continue with him, so great is my trust and confidence in him. He is abreast of all the latest cancer research and is clearly at the forefront of his field. I am convinced that I wouldn’t be alive today without him, as the initial prognosis was so gloomy but thanks to him and his excellent support team, I am not only alive but as I write this feel great. I honestly regard him as a gift from God. He is always available, always helpful and his “bedside manner” is amazing. I particularly recall him delivering some very bad news with the greatest care and compassion. In summary, Robin’s humanity and gentleness are absolutely outstanding and I recommend him in the highest possible terms as a wonderful medical professional and a deeply compassionate and kind human being.

Dr Jones is the most compassionate and hard working oncologist I have worked with and does not stop 24/7 whether it’s clinics, patient care, trials and research and will be no doubt be renowned for his part in advances in treating sarcoma.
