I am a 52 year old male who has suffered from arthritis all my adult life. I’ve been through extreme pain, self-pity, depression, felt life was not worth living, you name it! I am blessed with a lovely caring wife and three girls who have all cared for me, comforted me, understood me and are the very reason for living. They may not believe this though! I got a referral to Mr Shah’s clinic at Guys Hospital in London. Mr Shah sent me for an X-Ray examination and saw me almost immediately after. He concluded that both my hips needed surgery, clearly explained the options available. I opted for a long-term solution for a total bilateral surgery. My surgery was delayed due to my low iron levels. In addition pre-op examination brought to light a positive diagnosis of Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (an asleep disorder) which needed treatment prior to surgery. 21 Months down the line, both my hips are replaced. I placed my total trust in Mr Shah and am amply rewarded with a renewed vigour for life and am at last enjoying my life which most take for granted. There are no adjectives to describe Mr Shah, in a nutshell he is a gifted impeccable surgeon and above that a very decent human. I am truly privileged to meet this wonderfully calm human being. One anecdote to share with all (including Mr Shah!) I was testing his patience and calm demeanour during a consultation post second surgery. I impudently enquired who had done my final stitches fully knowing it was Mr Shah, he wanted to know the reason of my request, and I replied that the stitches were untidy. He calmly responded that it was him without agitation! That summarises him as a fantastic person. I would recommend this fantastic surgeon to anyone needing surgery and would always gladly and willing put my trust in him in any aspect of orthopaedic surgery.

Couldn’t be better! I first saw Mr Shah in April 2013 after referral from physiotherapy for knee pain. He was very pleasant and friendly, explained very clearly and succinctly what the problem was, the treatment options, the advantages and disadvantages of the various alternatives and helped me reach a decision about treatment. There was no rush; I had plenty of time to ask questions and they were answered in a way that helped me understand what the operation entailed and the expected results. I was able to choose my operation date to fit in with my work pattern and had my first total knee replacement in June 2013 with an excellent outcome. The procedure was explained clearly and I felt that I knew exactly what to expect. The operation went very well, with excellent results. I was quickly back on my feet and I am now able to walk, cycle, swim and can lead an active life again. Before the operation I had one short leg following an old motorcycle accident. As a bonus, that was sorted out when the knee was replaced. A fantastic result! It is now May 2014 and I am now ready to have the other knee replaced. I saw Mr Shah a few days ago. He remembered my case, explained plainly what would be done, answered my questions clearly and was reassuring. I have total confidence in another excellent outcome. I strongly recommend Mr Shah if you are to have this surgery.

Mr. Shah did a great job replacing my hip and even left me with a neat scar! Should ever I need the other hip replacing I would be more than happy for Mr. Shah to do it!

As I reported on 2 January, on 1 February I returned to have my left knee given a partial replacement following the same operation to my left three months earlier. Once again, Mr Shah and his team performed the operation with efficiently and skill. Although the damage done by the arthritis was greater this time - requiring a bigger replacement and longer scar – in two weeks the swelling had gone; in three, I could manage without a walking aid and in four was walking well. Indeeed, I am enjoying walking about for the first time in years. A few weeks’ physiotherapy and I will be back to normal - that is, before the arthritis appeared. The whole experience was impressive; the preliminary pre-operative tests were carried out efficiently; and the post-operative period was effective and even enjoyable thanks to the nurses and physiotherapists of Queen Ward. I cannot thank or recommend the competent and abilities of Mr Shah and Guys Hospital enough.

I had a torn meniscus in my right knee fixed just before Christmas and couldn't be more pleased with how things went. At the initial consultation Mr. Shah talked me through the results of the X-ray and MRI scan and explained quite clearly the options open to me and the pros and cons of each. The procedure itself was fine and I was even able to choose the date on which it was done. Recovery exceeded my expectations - I experienced almost no pain, was running within 3weeks of the op and climbed a 7500 ft mountain after 7 weeks. Follow up was at 6 weeks post op and was courteous and informative. Would be more than happy to be treated by Mr. Shah in the future.
