Mr Simon Ellis is an outstanding surgeon and a well know expert in his field of all knee problems and I have given him 5 stars right across the board. Mr Ellis told me that I needed a knee replacement 2 years ago but due to work and family commitments and after his clear and concise explanation of exactly what a knee replacement would entail and the recovery time needed to get a good outcome afterwards I was unable to have the operation at that time, so he helped me manage my painful knee with regular injections until I was ready to have it done. He became aware through his discussions and explanations of how the total knee replacement is performed that I had some history of a metal allergy, but wasn’t sure which metals so he suggested that I had a Melisa blood test analysis to find out. The test came back with a severe nickel allergy and a mild allergy to titanium which he quickly assured me would not be a problem as he could now order in a nickel free and specially coated prosthesis to use so that my body would not react badly to it. As I had put off the operation for a while unfortunately my leg had developed a pronounced bow but during the operation Mr Ellis managed to straighten it out perfectly. He was also aware that I was not keen on taking lots of tablets but stressed to me that the key for a quick and successful outcome was to do the exercises afterwards and to be able to do these you needed good 24 hour pain management so I did as I was told. I am now 11 days on from the operation now and couldn’t be any happier. I had my first physiotherapy appointment at the Alexandra Hospital on day 9 to be told I was about where most people would be by week 3 in my recovery thanks to being able to do my exercises ! I can’t praise Mr Ellis enough for his expertise and care of me and my knee replacement operation, he even phoned my husband while I was still in recovery to let him know that the operation went really well. His team kept me informed of everything I needed to know via emails and telephone calls before the operation, answering any queries I had and all the staff at the Alexandra Hospital were outstanding in their care, attention and help during my stay. I now feel like I have “a new knee and new me”

Mr Ellis seems to me everything one could want in a surgeon: highly knowledgeable, careful, concerned for the patient and the outcome.

From the moment i first met Dr Ellis at KIMS hospital i knew i had made the right choice on both fronts. From the off Dr Ellis was very professional. He gave me a operation date there and then (was even brought forward 2 weeks). The manner in which everything is run/organised at KIMS cannot be faulted. From meet and greet at the entrance, to reception, having my bloods done and the day of the operation, everything runs smoothly. On the day of the op i was booked in and taken to my room in double quick time & made to feel at home. I was met by the physiotherapist, the anaesthetist and the nurse on regular occasions before being taken down to the operating theatre just over an hour after arrival. The aftercare was also great. I’ve been kept informed via letters and the online lifebox system they set up for me. The whole team at KIMS makes it the best possible experience, and one that I cannot fault. So glad I decided to go private.
