I have had gall stones for a good many years but without any problems and just thought leave them alone. A couple of weeks before Christmas 2022 I had a bout of severe pain in my right upper abdomen which was diagnosed as biliary colic. This lasted for a week or more and I felt quite unwell and lost my usual good appetite. Knowing about my many years of living with gall stones, the doctor recommended me to see a surgeon regarding the possible removal of my gall bladder. I checked the list of surgeons at my local private hospital and Mr Mazin Sayegh appeared to have considerable medical expertise and experience in the field of Gastroenterology so I booked a consultation. I found Mr Sayegh had a pleasant friendly way about him when discussing my problem and he was very informative regarding the removal - or not - of my gall bladder. He informed me fully of the pros - and the possible cons - of the operation with the use of diagrams and medical data in an understandable way. Being in my 80th year but in good health Mr Sayegh suggested that now would be a good time to undertake the removal of my gall bladder even though this was the only problem I had had over the years. Rather than leave it for some time in the future, given my current age and good health, he didn't anticipate any problems with the operation and recovery from the keyhole surgery should be quite rapid. I said I wasn't sure as I'd lived with gall stones for many years without any problems and was aware of the possible cons of the operation. Mr Sayegh said he fully understood my predicament and said that "the decision was entirely yours. Think it over and let me know. I won't be offended if you decide not to go ahead." I did think it over and contacted Mr Sayegh a couple of times over the next couple of weeks to ask further questions which he was happy to answer. I decided to have the operation and Mr Sayegh popped in to have a chat just before I went down to theatre - as did the anaesthetist, both reassuring me of the procedure in a friendly manner. The operation went well and Mr Sayegh also corrected an umbilical hernia I had which I didn't know about and came to see me a couple of hours after. My recovery was indeed rapid and I was 'back to normal' in no time. On my first check-up consultation Mr Sayegh detailed what he had done and showed me photographs of the operation internally which I was allowed to keep. You can hardly see where my incision were and he did a great job. I really appreciated his friendly and informative manner and consideration for my doubts about having the operation.
