I had a lump on the left hand side of my nose which, after consultation and a biopsy by a dermatology doctor at Spire Hartswood, turned out to be a form of skin cancer. I never dreamed it would be that to be honest but didn't actually know what I thought it was. After my diagnosis, the doctor referred me to Mr Sood as she felt it would need to be removed. From my initial consultation, I felt at ease and very comfortable with Mr Sood and I trusted him 100% even though I'd only just met him. He explained in detail what the procedure entailed and also, the after care including the pros and cons after the operation ie how he would take a skin graft from my shoulder and place it on my face, what my face may look like etc. I remember asking him, "Does it really need to be removed" to which he said, "Yes. I remove it, its done and you get on with your life". Perfect answer!! Luckily, with this type of skin cancer there would be no chemo or radiotherapy. He was very thorough in his explanations of the procedure, including the anaesthetic, and I was booked in for 23rd November 2022. I can honestly say I wasn't nervous at all. Mr Sood definitely put me at ease from day one. Spire Hartswood is an amazing place and so are the staff - very attentative, knowledgeable and friendly. I saw so many members of staff that morning it was incredible. From the outset, I was adamant that I was going to be sedated however, on the morning of the operation after speaking with the aneathetist, I changed my mind as we spoke about a GA. This made me a little unsettled. Mr Sood came to see me pretty much straight after the aneathetist visited and I told him my concerns and again, he put my mind at ease straight away. He said due to the delicate nature of the operation, a GA would be preferable but it was up to me. I did have a GA and just simply spoke with the aneathetist in the operating theatre. Job done! The next I remember is waking up in recovery with a wonderful, cheerful Sister at my bedside. My procedure was over! I remained at Hartswood for a few hours but as I felt OK, was soon discharged home. The after care I have received from Mr Sood and the team at Hartswood has been amazing. I have seen Mr Sood, and the nursing staff, quite a few times as he has been checking on the progress of my procedure. My last visit was on 11th January 2023 and thankfully, he is really pleased with how my face is progressing. He is hoping to discharge me in May 2023. At first, I was a little concerned as the skin cancer was on my face and it took a while to come to terms with that. When the dressing first came off, I was a little nervous as it was my "comfort blanket" and I was worried about how it would look and how other people would stare but my initial dressing was so huge, people stared anyway. My face is healing really nicely and in time, no one will ever notice it. I honestly, don't even worry about it now. Mr Sood is fab and I highly recommend him. If you have any doubts about the procedure, please don't. He is brilliant and a very clever surgeon.
