I saw Mr Childs initially because I’d had a meniscus tear in my right knee. This escalated over a short period of time to severe arthritis requiring a total knee replacement. From the start Mr Childs listened to my account of the pain levels I was experiencing through to the impact the problems with my knee had on my life and general well-being. He never rushed me. He tried various interventions (painkillers, steroid injection, arthroscopy, referral to physio). He showed me the x-ray explaining how bone end was in contact with bone end and how the leg was beginning to bow. He talked me through my options at every turn. As soon as practically possible (COVID19 notwithstanding) he performed total knee replacement surgery. He was encouraging even before I left the hospital. I followed directions. I was committed to getting the best possible benefit from the new knee. I stubbornly did my exercises and walks even when it was extremely painful. At my 6 week check he said I’d made the progress expected at 3-4 months. It’s less painful every day and I feel like he gave me my life back. I enjoy walking with my dog again. He’s accepted my praise and given me credit for my hard work post-op. I’ll be forever grateful.
