Having met with Mr Shepard and discussed all available options. I decided upon the Conformis knee replacement as being the best suited for me. One of the best decisions I have made for a long time. The operation was scheduled for Monday, 20 January 2020 and was carried out under epidural which enabled me to be mobile that night. From the start, I had total confidence in Mr Shepard and his team at the BMI Beaumont, Bolton. Knowing that I could ask anything at any time was comforting. The follow up physio and lifestyle information was excellent and after just 6 weeks I was able to walk inside without the aid of a crutch and only require it for long distances; more as a security blanket! My knee bend is an amazing 120°+. This operation has been life changing and would highly recommend him to anyone who needs surgery.

I saw Mr Shepard at the Beaumont hospital for a consultation as i had osteoarthritis in my left knee. My knee had turned inwards and i was dragging my leg when walking. He offered me a total knee replacement . He told me it would straighten my leg and get rid of any pain when it had healed, but also made me fully aware of the risks involved regarding blood clots and wound infections. He said that although I would probably walk better there were no guarantees. I went home and considered the options and decided to have the surgery to hopefully improve my mobility and quality of life. I had the operation on the 6th January 2020 with a spinal block and sedation. It was like a natural sleep and I felt fully alert when I woke up on the way to the recovery room. I had pain relief as well as aspirin and leg cuffs at night to help prevent blood clots. Thankfully there were no complications and I did well with physiotherapy and home exercises. Six weeks later I was discharged by physiotherapy as my new knee was bending so well and given some knee strengthening exercises to carry on doing at home. It is imperative to keep up the exercises to get the full benefit from the surgery. My leg is now straight, my mobility is improving each day and I can now do the stairs one foot after the other which is something that I have not been able to do for the last seven years also my wound is healing well. I am ecstatic with the outcome of my surgery and would highly recommend Mr.Shepard.

Had a full, customised knee replacement in December 2019 and, from start to finish, the advice from Mr Shephard was very clear and helpful. I chose to have him as my knee specialist for his experience in dealing with knee injuries from ligaments to arthritis and the care and attention from start to finish has been excellent from both Mr Shephard and the hospital team. I'm seven weeks into recovery and thank you ever so much for giving me back the hope of a pain free knee!!

Mr Shepard replaced both my knees first in October 19 and then December 19. His honest direct approach was refreshing. I felt included in my treatment rather than just being told what i was going to do. All the information given was honest and allowed me to be realistic about my expectations for recovery. Already just six weeks after my second knee replacement i am walking better than i have in years!
