Mr Spink has an excellent patient manner. He was thorough with his examination and explained his findings clearly. He listened and then went through the treatment options. Together we agreed a treatment plan and he went above and beyond to help me. I am so grateful for his understanding and kindness. I would recommend his care to anybody, he is a credit to his profession. I can’t thank him enough!
Mr Spink greeted me well and explained everything to me about my condition and am happy he has prioritised my operation.I felt at ease and came away less worried than before i spoke to him.
I chose this consultant, having viewed his website, to investigate the problems I was having with nerve pain in my legs. I had three consultations prior to surgery and on every occasion I was greeted with courtesy and felt that Mr Spink was really listening to what I was saying, asking supplementary questions to enhance his understanding of my symptoms. He took copious notes which were in turn written in to letters to my GP and myself. I found this extremely helpful. Pre surgery I asked for specific information re the operation and this was given in a detailed and sensitive manner. I was given helpful booklets too.
I opted to have surgery as I felt very confident in such capable hands. I was to have a laminectomy on my lower spine. Pre - op he visited me in my room and also gave me a reassuring thumbs up as I walked into surgery. Following surgery he visited me to tell me exactly what my problem had been and how he had rectified the problem. He gave me a very simple analogy to understand the complex nature of this procedure. He also told me that unfortunately there had been a small leak of spinal fluid and how this might present itself with headaches. He visited me the next morning and listened to what I had to say about feeling under pressure to take more pain killers , passing this on to nursing staff as he left. He cleared me for discharge. He gave me very useful advice on a timescale for recovery.
On a couple of occasions I have wanted more information and his secretaries were extremely efficient as indeed was Mr Spink, returning with information via email that day.
I made a very quick recovery, experiencing far less pain than I had anticipated and I was much more mobile than I expected to be.. The difficulties I was having in left leg have completely disappeared. My right leg is taking a little longer to calm down but I feel hopeful this will resolve itself in due course and know that Mr Spink will give me further guidance on this if needs be.
I am a 76 year old man who suffered for many many years with lumbar and cervical spinal problems. Following a further spinal specialist review in 2020 where the consultant I was under said there was no suitable surgery on the advice of a nurse friend I was told to consult Mr.Spink. I consulted Mr. Spink and he told me he could undertake a procedure to my lumbar spine which could relieve my long term back and leg pains. He explained exactly what the procedure involved including all risks and possible outcomes. After carefully considering these I elected to have the lumbar spinal procedure to relieve the pains. I had a further consultation and was admitted to Spire Hospital in Hull where the procedure was carried out. The outcome has been excellent far better then I had anticipated and Mr. Spink came to see me both pre and anti operation prior to my discharge. Having had other spinal surgeries in the past I have to say that the procedure was carried out in the most professional manner and I could not have wished for better service from Mr.Spink or any of the staff at Spire hospital.
Very pleasant confidence inspiring manner. Having warned me of all the risks involved in the spinal fusion operation I had and after sending me through the various options of steroid injections and nerve ablation before he would operate once the decision had been made mr. Spink was nothing but positive and reassuring. Post op my leg pain had completely gone and the pain in my back from the surgery was very manageable, controlled by codeine for three days then paracetamol thereafter as needed.
I can only add that I have already recommended a good friend to him who has similar problems to me.
