I have received outstanding care from Mr Yewlett. I have had severe pain in my right shoulder, with limited mobility for over a year. I seen Mr Yewlett and within 4-5wks I was booked for surgery. He explained the procedure to me very well and I have received excellent care from him. We are very lucky to have surgeons like Mr Yewlett at Grantham hospital.

Mr Yewlett operated on my arm last Thursday and the operation is a great success. I found Mr Yewlett gave me the courage to have the operation which had to be done since a badly broken arm had not healed after 5 months and surgery was the only option. I was really terrified of having this done but after two meetings I felt confident that he would do a great job and he did. He was very thorough honest and professional and I would like to say a big thank you to him and all of his team. Mrs d Townsend bird

I thought you may be interested in my story. I recently sustained a Nasty crash out Mountain bike trail riding at the Cork Screw Trail, Cannop Cycle Centre Forest of Dean, #FODMTB It was Sunday 15/10/2016 @ around 12pm I collided with a tree head on at 34.2mph causing a severe dislocation to my left elbow in which resulted in a full radial head elbow replacement, (1st ever Full radial head replacement to be done in history of the NHS I believe!) I also snapped my right wrist also resulting in a operation and pin insertion to repair. I was introduced to Orthopaedic Consultant Mr Alun Yewlett at the Royal Glam firstly where he explained to my self and partner exactly what the procedure was for such a horrific dislocation and such trauma injuries I had sustained. On meeting with Mr Yewlett he was adamant that he could fix my arm no problem. He then transferred me to his clinic at Prince Charles Hospital where Altogether I was under the knife for 7&1/4 hours where he repaired my left elbow along with transferring bone material from my left elbow to replace the splintered bone in my right wrist, Absolutely amazing!!! I must praise Mr Yewlett for his absolute 1st class service and treatment he provided my self, Without his knowledge and excellence I don't think I'd be in the condition I am after only 22-23 weeks from my accident!! Also after 12 weeks from accident please note I was back cycling at the same location I received my injuries in the first place!!!! Highly Highly Recommended to others!!!!! Put it this way i wouldn't refer to him as a consultant !!!! I'd class him as a magician because he worked his magic on my self for sure!!! If only I could place my x-ray & injury photos on here you could see exactly what he had to contend with when he met my self !!!! Thanks for taking 5 mins of your time to read my story .

Mr Yewlett was great and listened to everything said to him. The only negative is he has now left Prince Charles leaving those of us waiting for surgery in agony and nothing from the hospital to say what is happening next. Very poor patient care from the hospital but excellent care from Mr Yewlett.

After a fall just before Christmas 2016, I suffered severe damage to my right shoulder. The diagnosis was “Fracture dislocation with subcoracoid humeral head fracture” (the ball of the shoulder joint at the top of the humerous had snapped off). The extent of the injuries was such that a successful repair was not possible. I was introduced to Mr. Alun Yewlett who was a Locum consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery at Prince Charles Hospital. Mr. Yewlett went to great lengths to explain what damage had been done, what options were available (there was only one) where I had a good chance of regaining a fully functional shoulder. He carried out a “Trauma reverse” (Reversed shoulder replacement) on 29th December 2016. This is an implant where the ball of the shoulder joint is put where the socket used to be and the socket put where the ball used to be. This is not a common procedure and I was fortunate for Mr. Yewlett’s expertise in this area. The operation was a great success (in my opinion) although I had to keep the shoulder pretty much immobile for 6 weeks after the operation to prevent further injury and promote healing. It’s 3 months since the operation and about 6 weeks since starting physiotherapy, with my shoulder movement and rotation improving steadily. I saw Mr. Yewlett today 24th March 2017 and he was very pleased with the way things are progressing, re iterating that it could take 9-10 months to reach the maximum movement I am likely to achieve. While it has been a bit of an ordeal for me, I was very fortunate to have been cared for by Mr. Yewlett, not only an exceptional surgeon but with a wonderful bedside manner, where nothing is too much trouble. He is very approachable and takes the time to explain everything and answers any questions you may have. A great shame he is leaving Prince Charles Hospital, but he will be a wonderful asset to his new hospital. Mrs Elizabeth Coombs
