9th December 2016

My Name is Theresa and I have lived in Pebsham for eight years now with my partner Julie. I retired from my job in Tunbridge Wells at the age of 65. and we both visited Pebsham Surgery to sign on. We made an appointment with Dr Elias and introduced ourselves as partners and he welcomed us into the practice.... I'd been coughing all day on Thursday 8th and all night to today 9th December. I rang Pebsham Surgery with very little hope because Fridays are always pretty full. However, I was lucky and given 10am this morning in Pebsham Surgery with Dr Suneeta Kochhar. I was surprised to get an appointment as the surgery is often always booked. Like people store up their illnesses all week and take them down to Pebsham Surgery on Fridays because the surgery closes for the weekends...!!! But I digress. I was delighted to see Dr Kochhar again as I first met her on Friday 13th May earlier this year - unlucky for some but very lucky indeed for me. Let me explain..... I had been suffering with what was diagnosed as "IBS" for nearly 4 years and my many visits to the loo every day had become commonplace, until, I saw blood, I told my best beloved partner Julie who said "Go to the Doctors"....."Oh it's probably that fissure I had years ago is playing up again 'cause I keep having to go to the loo a lot and my 'anxiety problems' may be the cause of that". I said. "I can't make you go to the Doctor's but you really should because if it's not just IBS and something else, you may be able to get it sorted," she said..... I pulled a face and said, "Like Cancer I 'spose?" "Well, yes actually love".......... I got an appointment Friday 13th May at 10.00am. I knocked on Dr Kochhar's door "Come in" said the voice from within. (Getting a bit dramatic now!) The doctor stood up and held out her hand. "Hallo Theresa, what may I help you with today?"........Wow! I shook her hand and was asked to take a seat. I sat down and said, "I know we have only just met but would you please have a look up my bum?!!! The Doctor smiled (I liked that) "Of course, tell me what has been the problem? Hop onto the bed and lie on your side............" "Come and sit down" I sat and she faced me - not her computer, as seems the norm in the doc's office! (I liked that). She told me that she couldn't see anything ominous but would like to refer me to a specialist who would be able to see further using the better equipment. I said, "I hope it's not cancer..........? Dr Kochhar smiled again and said "I can't rule that out so let's see what the specialist has got to say and we'll take it from there"............ Tuesday 24th May I had an appointment with the surgeon Miss Imelda Donnellan for a consultation and she wanted me to have a colonoscopy so on Wednesday 8th June at 2.35pm I spent an uncomfortable 3/4s of an hour in the rumbling noisy tube after which I met the team of nurses who would be looking after me from that moment on. The colonoscopy had shown a tumour inside my bowel. Within every fortnight I was 'fast tracked' through test after test until I was taken into the Conquest Hospital on 27th July and Miss Donnellan took out a good portion of my bowel which included the tumour within. I was up and about in 24 hours and spent 5 days in the hospital before going home to take things easy and get better. It was a pleasure to see Dr Kochhar again today and thank her for being kind and honest and getting the ball rolling back in May to have the operation for the removal of the tumour on 27th July. She told me that the operation was successful and the tumour was taken out just in time for it to become cancerous. Dr Kochhar is kind, patient and never makes you feel you're being a nuisance, she looks at you when she talks to you and not at the computer only for reference. She gave me a prescription for a course of antibiotics for my chesty painful cough and told me to come back and see her if I wasn't better by the end of the course. I have also seen Dr Kochhar's husband, Dr French and he is equally kind and considerate and never makes you feel you are being a nuisance. They are well suited but I hope they don't take their work home at the end of the day.......!

Dr Kochhar is not my primary Doctor, but because of her expertise I was sent to her from my own surgery, what better recommendation could some one possibly have? When I first met her, I felt comfortable straight away, she greeted my wife and I as if we had known her for a long time. It was evident immediately that she had such a caring and friendly nature with an abbundance of empathy. Dr Kochhar prescribed me treatment and said exactly what would happen first and then to see her again after a set time. I followed her advice to the letter and I am pleased to say that she was 100% correct. The follow up appointment was just the same as the first, I was immediately put at ease and given advice for future reference with the Knowledge that I could always contact her if ever I needed too! Fantastic results all round. Thank you Dr Kochhar, I hope you are aware of just how much your work is appreciated.

This Doctor gave me her full attention having asked for the reason for my visit and explained the reasons for her recommended treatment. A further appointment was booked for me by the surgery making the overall visit a positive joint effort between Doctor, Surgery and Patient.
