This was my first meeting with Dr. Kandikattu, he made me feel totally at ease and explained my problem and the treatment care in great detail, but easily understood. Am now awaiting an appointment for the injections without any anxiety.

I have been with Dr Kandikattu and his team for nearly 3 years now. From my first consultation to last week’s treatment, I have always found him approachable, a good listener when you explain something to him, very good at explaining what he is going to do, the effects of treatments and making suggestions for other things to try. He is clearly very well respected within the department and this leads to a comfortable environment when you are having treatment. Dr Kandikattu always makes it clear that he won’t be able to cure the pain I am experiencing but that he and his team are there to help me manage that pain in a more positive way, in the hope I can lead a ‘better’ life alongside the pain. I like that honesty because it makes my hopes from the treatments more realistic. As for the Dr giving a treatment, I cannot fault this man. He knows what aspects of the treatment cause me discomfort and tells me what he is doing every step of the way. He carries out the treatment at a pace that I am comfortable with and is happy to stop for a while if I need to. I never feel he is rushing treatment and that I am just a number in his list. Overall I can’t speak highly enough of Dr Kandikattu and his team.

I was seen today and had a procedure of pain injections into my back by Dr Subhash Kandikattu, I can honestly say all the staff were very friendly and the consultant was wonderful he talks you through everything and explains everything. I am a very nervous patient and don't have a very high pain threshold and he calmed me down and honestly it was no where near as bad as I thought it was going to be, did not hurt one bit stung a little and felt a little pressure and that was it, after care again was excellent, would definatley recommend all the staff and this procedure if you need it.

Profile

Dr Kandikattu is one of the few pain medicine consultants in East Anglia to have gained certification in the Fellowship in Interventional Pain Practice (FIPP). He uses the biopsychosocial model of pain to offer modern assessment and management of his patients’ pain at the Peterborough City & Stamford Hospital, Fitzwilliam and Boston West and Clementine Churchill Hospitals.

“Whilst doing my pain training at the Royal Marsden Hospital, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, St Mary’s Hospital and Hillingdon Hospital, I was inspired by the pioneers in pain management there and I became keen to learn new techniques.”

“I am pleased to now be able to tutor students studying for their MSc in Regional Anaesthetics at the University of East Anglia and I hope that I can instil some of desire to embrace new and modern pain management techniques in these trainees.”

Dr Kandikattu offers comprehensive pain management to people suffering from chronic pain from their head to their toes including: cancer, musculoskeletal and spinal (neck, chest, lower back, sciatica), neuropathic, complex regional pain syndrome, fibromyalgia, chronic headaches and persistent post-surgical pain.

He performs a full range of pain interventions including epidurals, facet and sacroiliac joint injections, radiofrequency denervations, most of which are image-guided using x-ray or ultrasound guidance. He is also an expert in treating acute pain and inpatient pain management.

He offers outpatient appointments and inpatient care for pain management intervention at the Fitzwilliam and Boston West Hospitals. Patients struggling with chronic post-operative pain may need further pain management to relieve their discomfort and Dr Kandikattu can offer a back-up service for them too.

“I use this holistic model of approach for all my patients, taking all the biological, psychological and, social factors into account as each can impact on a patient’s pain. It’s important to treat patients as a whole.” said Dr Kandikattu.
