I had been informed by other patients that the pain relief injections into my back/spine would be very painful, however this for me was not the case. Mr Kandikattu was so attentive and gentle when injecting I had no or very little discomfort throughout the whole procedure. The team he worked with were also very good and very reassuring. Mr Kandikattu informed me at every stage what he was about to do so I felt relaxed and safe during the process. I would highly recommend him again to anyone, his bedside manner is second to none, I did not feel like a dartboard or just a lump of meat on the table. He actively listened to what I said and acted upon it, I honestly felt a part of the team taking an active role in my own care. Well done all round.

I saw Dr Kandikattu on March 14th 2022 for 8 steriod injections. He made me totally at ease and made sure I felt comfortable throughout the procedure. I would not hesitate to recommend him to anybody, and I am feeling much better already. Jean from Lincolnshire.

following years of ever increasing back pain and numerous unsuccessful treatments, I was referred to Dr Kandikattu late in 2019. The Covid pandemic made its impact upon everything and, consequently, his planned denervation procedures were postponed on several occasions. From my first consultation with Dr Kandikattu to the date on which he performed the procedure (14 March 2022) I had no qualms that he was the best person in whom to put my trust. Dr Kandikattu and his team in theatre allayed my fears and were incredibly kind, caring and professional. I felt so fortunate.

At my initial consultation Dr Kandikattu diagnosed the issue with my knee and explained carefully and clearly what he could do to help my situation. When I went to the Day Ward at Stamford Hospital this week I was very impressed at the way that the whole team including Dr Kandikattu work together to make it a positive experience. Because I have serious mobility issues I was concerned whether they would be able to manage my transfers etc., they did so with compassion and friendly efficiency ~ Dr Kandikattu was not too important to lend a hand with this when necessary! His team obviously hold him in high regard and that speaks well of his whole attitude to his work. He explained everything before the procedure and during it, constantly asking if I was alright and ensuring that I was free from pain as far as possible. I am not the sort of person who writes reviews, but I am happy to make an exception in this instance. After being passed from one clinician to another, I feel fortunate to have ended up in the care of this knowledgeable consultant who is plainly at the top of his field.

Profile

Dr Kandikattu is one of the few pain medicine consultants in East Anglia to have gained certification in the Fellowship in Interventional Pain Practice (FIPP). He uses the biopsychosocial model of pain to offer modern assessment and management of his patients’ pain at the Peterborough City & Stamford Hospital, Fitzwilliam and Boston West and Clementine Churchill Hospitals.

“Whilst doing my pain training at the Royal Marsden Hospital, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, St Mary’s Hospital and Hillingdon Hospital, I was inspired by the pioneers in pain management there and I became keen to learn new techniques.”

“I am pleased to now be able to tutor students studying for their MSc in Regional Anaesthetics at the University of East Anglia and I hope that I can instil some of desire to embrace new and modern pain management techniques in these trainees.”

Dr Kandikattu offers comprehensive pain management to people suffering from chronic pain from their head to their toes including: cancer, musculoskeletal and spinal (neck, chest, lower back, sciatica), neuropathic, complex regional pain syndrome, fibromyalgia, chronic headaches and persistent post-surgical pain.

He performs a full range of pain interventions including epidurals, facet and sacroiliac joint injections, radiofrequency denervations, most of which are image-guided using x-ray or ultrasound guidance. He is also an expert in treating acute pain and inpatient pain management.

He offers outpatient appointments and inpatient care for pain management intervention at the Fitzwilliam and Boston West Hospitals. Patients struggling with chronic post-operative pain may need further pain management to relieve their discomfort and Dr Kandikattu can offer a back-up service for them too.

“I use this holistic model of approach for all my patients, taking all the biological, psychological and, social factors into account as each can impact on a patient’s pain. It’s important to treat patients as a whole.” said Dr Kandikattu.
