The dentist is currently unavailable
As my colleague initially explained to you, GPs are advised not to prescribe antibiotics for dental infections as we lack the training and equipment to fully assess you (and dental infections can require more than just antibiotics). If we provide the wrong treatment, dental infections can spread and it can become extremely serious (particularly due to the closeness of teeth to the brain). This is the same as a dentist not prescribing antibiotics for chest infections. We advised you to contact NHS 111 if you were struggling to obtain dental care, because NHS 111 can access a dental triage service (which can arrange emergency dental care if assessed to be urgent). I am sorry if you had a frustrating experience with NHS 111 and I hope you are getting better now. Thank you taking the time to provide us your feedback.
