I have been working with Dr. Samadara Weerasuriya in Theatres as a team leader in the Recovery Unit. She hands over her post-anaesthetic patient to a member of my recovery team. As the team leader in Recovery, I make it a point to check that we do not miss anything important during the handover process. Every time Dr. Weerasuriya does her handovers, they were very in-depth in terms of patient's medical and surgical history, ASA status, allergies, drugs given in Theatre, post-op medications prescribed and anything else relevant that a post-anaesthetic care practitioner needs to know. She is not the type of anaesthetist that you have to chase or look for because you need post-op analgesia or anti-emetics. What you need for your patient are all prescribed. This simply shows how much Dr. Weerasuriya cares for her patients in terms of their comfort and needs after surgery. It's always a pleasure working with her.
