On first meeting Dr Makker, I was immediately put at ease. She was warm, friendly and informative. I had complete confidence in her throughout my procedure.
I was visited by Dr M before my operation and I explained about my chemo veins and how hard and sore they were. She told me she had loads of experience and There was nothing for me to worry about and none of this would be a problem. When I was taken down to the theatre she was no where to be seen. A different anaesthetist was present and after three attempts and filling my hand with fluid on a ‘slipped vein’ Dr M arrived .... Another two attempts were made to enter my hard chemo veins which was excruciatingly painful and I was in tears. Thank goodness I was finally knocked out as the pain was unbearable. My hand is extremely painful after a week and a half and bruised considerably. I was disappointed that she was not there when I arrived at the theatre and I had to explain to the anaesthetist all over again in a rush whilst he was in the process of putting needles in my hand. I am sure that Dr M is extremely experienced but I was very disappointed that she arrived late and I felt let down. I was very upset and in extreme pain just before an operation that I was not looking forward to!
I am sorry you had a less than satisfactory experience. I assure you I am very privileged to with in the NHS and I have worked at St Albans for 21 years. I am proud to be associated with West Herts. Needless to say I am so sorry you had a bad experience and I thank you d’or sharing it. I don’t recall the exact day or events however sometimes we are called elsewhere abd it may be I was busy with something else. Perhaps it was unexpected and hence I didn’t have time to handover to my colleague In nhs sometimes we do have to handover care of a patient I know this does not take away the pain you experienced and in no way am I minimising your hurt and disappointment Please accept my sincere apologies and I shall be mindful of this review in my future practice Hope you are well. Warm regards Dr Makker
I saw Dr Ratna as part of my hysterectomy operation and she was great. She asked me if I had any issues in the past with anaesthetic. I explained I get very grumpy afterwards and I'm not good to be around for a few days!!!! She advised that she could do something about that. She also suggested that I have a epidural and that would aid my recovery from the anaesthetic too. My recover after the op was great. I experienced no grumpiness whatsoever for the first time!!! I can't recommend her enough! She really helped my recovery after a big operation.
Dr R. Makker is a brilliant anaesthetist, I was very nervous as it was my first major surgery, but Dr. Makker made me feel at ease. She gave me a Spinal Block anaesthetic which was completely painless and stress free. Thank you so much Dr. Makker for making the whole experience stress free and completely painless. With the help from you and the brilliant surgeon Mr Ben Spiegelberg you both made my first major operation so easy cope with. You get 100% from me without any doubt. Mrs Sandra Bedford
I had a total hip replacement on the 13th of April 2016 at Spire Hospital Harpenden via the NHS. I have not been in hospital since I was six and at fifty seven I was a nervous patient. Dr Makker was kind and sympathetic listening to my concerns and putting me at ease. She made a difference to my stay and I would have no hesitation in recommending her.
