Dr Liban spent a reasonable length of time with me in my room and in the anti-room to the theatre, explaining and re-assuring me regarding the forthcoming procedure. His manner was gentle and confident and I was put very much at ease by his expertise and his ability to find light relaxing topics to discuss in those minutes before going through to theatre. I thoroughly commend him. There is one unfortunate incident I would like to comment upon regarding the nurse on duty with Dr Liban in the anti-room. Someone I had mistakenly assumed was to be the surgeon in the place of Prof. Watkin. I was walked to theatre by one of the nurses on my ward. She was the classic caring and understanding sort that one finds so often in the nursing profession, even asking if she was walking too fast as we headed to the anti-room. She had ben very kind, attentive and chatty on the ward - a first class nurse. On arrival, she was treated very brusquely and critically by the nurse, in my presence. she maintained a very sensible but obviously embarrassed silence. I asked the nurse, subsequently, who this overbearing person was, assuming he had some authority, I was told "just another nurse". She deserved better.
