Following a diagnosis of Ca Rectum in September 2020, I was referred to the Christie for neo-adjuvant therapy. At this time the plan was to return to my local hospital for the subsequent surgery which was necessary to remove the tumour. Having experienced the expertise of the Christie hospital and all it's staff that I encountered, I decided to opt to have my surgery at the Christie and was put under the care of Mr Aziz. This decision has proved to be one of the best decisions I have ever made. From the moment I met Mr Aziz, I felt reassured that I was in such good hands and that I was going to be well cared for. My surgery was a success and I can remember him saying to me on his first visit post procedure that if he could give it marks out of 10, he would give it 10. After an agonising few months of uncertainty, this news was obviously some of the best news that I had received since my initial diagnosis. Mr Aziz assessed me during my stay in hospital and was always kind and compassionate. I have recovered well from the surgery but still see Mr Aziz as I am due to have more surgery next year to reverse my ileostomy. Although I have mixed feelings about the next step of my journey, Mr Aziz has reassured me and explained everything to me to try and alleviate my fears. I personally feel that Mr Aziz is an excellent surgeon who is dedicated to his patients and shows such compassion and empathy. I have the utmost respect and trust in him and he has made what has been a very traumatic time so much more tolerable.
