You need to understand that was in constant chronic pain, for many years. Suffering from degenerative spinal disc wear, scoliosis and flat back syndrome. After years of referrals to pain management clinics, physiotherapy all with only minor or no effect on the chronic pain l was suffering. I first met Mr Nasir Quraishi at the Spinal clinic of the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham. By this time i was in a sorry state and hardly being able to function normally! I was unable to walk more than a few feet without serious pain, not able to lift or carryeven medium weights, including my young children! It was at this time, I began having issues of numbness around my back passage and saddle area. I noticed urine dribbling, before and after going to the toilet. My sex life was also at zero due to chronic pain! Attending an appointment at Mr Quraishi's clinic, l was tested for Cauda Equina, and sent for and emergency MRI scan, which confirmed the diagnosis. I was admitted immediately to the Spianl surgical ward at QMC hospital Nottingham. Where the surgical team headed by Consultant Mr Quraishi, set out a three operation plan. First and formost, an emergency decompression of my spianl cord. This was to release the pressure of nerves that were trapped. These nerves controlled the feelings and sensation to my bladder and the saddle area, the area around my backside. Operation one of three, the decompression was carried the following day. This almost immediately relived the symptoms of Cauda Equina. I was at this time only able to walk with the aid of two elbow crutches. Operation two of the plan, went ahead some weeks later. This was carried out anteriorly by Mr Grevit Consultant Spinal Surgeon. It was the stabilisation of my spine by placing three plates attached with screws to the front of my spine. Recovery from this took a few months. Operation three of the plan was by far the largest and longest, being an instrumented fusion of the spine from Pelvis upto and including T10. Mr Quraishi carried out this procedure, using 22 pedical screws and two long rods, to straighten my scoliosis and shape my spine to elevate my flat back syndrome. Spcers with bone growth promoter were inserted to aid the fusion. This operation lasted over 9 hours! The recovery took a little over 3 months for to be able to walk unaided. With physiotherapy I was able regain my lost muscle tone and return to a normal life. I can't thank the whole team at the QMC Nottingham enough! Mr Nasir Quraishi in particular as he has basically given me my life back. He is an extremely talented and kind man, thank you so much for using your skills to give me back a normal life. Yours truly greatful Gordon Gunn.
