Regrettably, I didn't have a very nice experience with this Surgeon. Mr Lambert came highly recommended by a number of people as I had a four-year history of a shoulder problem following an injury and previous surgery that had given little benifit. After examining me and reviewing my previous scans, Mr Lambert proposed an open rotator cuff repair. This was done a few weeks later. The recovery proved very painful, although I was able to get reasonable movement back. When I returned to Mr Lambert four months after surgery in no less pain, he examined me, said it was unlikely the repair had failed and proposed I give it more time. He did prescribe an ultrasound exam and a diagnostic injection, but these took another three months to materialise. Whilst the ultrasound report suggested continued abmornality and the possibility of tearing, the letter back to my GP from Mr Lambert stated that the ultrasound had been reassuring and there was nothing significant to worry about. Meanwhile I was left in some of the worst pain of my life. I have since sought help elsewhere and have had further revision surgery. This surgeon's conclusion was that Mr Lambert's repair had indeed failed. He had also overlooked a significant labral tear that was causing noticable instability of my shoulder joint. This has now been repaired. I short, I found Mr Lambert very aimiable before surgery, but afterwards when things were obvioulsy not right, it was a very different story.

Mr Lambert took a lot of care and time to ensure that I completely understood the full procedure of having a shoulder replacement. I never felt patronised, overwhelmed or confused by any medical descriptions because he made sure that I understood everything and was completely comfortable with the surgical options available to me. I found him to be a genuinely caring professional and cannot recommend him highly enough. My surgery has been very successful and the care and attention I received from Mr Lambert, from his PA Stephanie and from the team at Bushey Spire was fantastic.

I had a shoulder replacement operation in April 2009 and when it failed in 2012 I was referred to Mr Lambert as one of the only consultants in the UK who would be able to help me. I was very apprehensive but from my first appointment with Mr Lambert I was put at ease and had every faith in him. He was kind and patient acknowledging my apprehension. He explained everything to me and answered each of my concerns. The surgery was carried out in Spire Bushey Hospital in January 2013. The original prosthesis had to be removed and a new one inserted. A further minor procedure was required in 2014 but I have now been discharged with a functional shoulder. I am extremely grateful for care I received under Mr Lambert and would be pleased to recommend him to anyone requiring a solution to a serious shoulder problem

I have nothing but praise for Mr Simon Lambert. Unlike other consultants I have seen for a variety of conditions, Mr Lambert was thorough yet very patient. I felt that I was being treated as a person rather than another paying customer! Obtaining an appointment with Mr Lambert is the only area where I feel some improvement is required. On my first two phone calls there was no reply and I was asked to leave a voice message. This I did but nobody phoned me back. On my third try a person answered and an appointment was courteously arranged. All in all, I would not consider seeing anyone else for shoulder and elbow problems.

My first appointment Nov 2014 was thorough and follow up appt for a steroid injection was made in Jan 2015 . Since the last appt with another consultant who administered the injection at the beginning of Jan 2015 I have not received any communication from Mr Lambert . I have made several calls to his PA and to date no referral for physio or communication has been made . I feel totally neglected and would receive better treatment under the NHS. My experience leaves me unable to recommend Mr Lambert.

Profile

I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a special interest in the shoulder and elbow. I also hold an honorary academic appointment within University College London. Having worked at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH), a specialist orthopaedic hospital, where I created a research-active, educationally-acclaimed, science-based service, integrated with and recognising the extreme importance of expert rehabilitation, I have now moved to University College London Hospital. We enjoy a national reputation for clinical excellence and clinical research, which I fully expect to contribute to over the next decade. We value our national and international collaborations, and expect to develop these further with the evolution of the service. As a component of this effort my work with the AO has offered opportunities to younger colleagues while bringing the values of the AO to a wide variety of surgeons and therapists. Truly international collaboration and exchange of ideas clearly enhances and promotes the efficacy of patient-directed care and forms the basis for the motivation behind my development of the shoulder and elbow service at UCLH.
