When my husband and I first met Dr Kerr we both said what a calming nature he had... his explanations of things that were obviously very difficult for us to deal with at the time were second to none, he has great people skills and immediately picked up on how anxious I was felling. The night before an impending operation he sat and talked to me and my husband and we were never rushed or felt he had to rush off and be somewhere, again his people skills were second to none. On another occasion on a morning of my operation he came to see me and I was a nervous wreck, he was calm, understanding and reasssuring he took time to listen to my fears and helped me to prepare for the next stage, getting through the dreaded doors of an operating theatre, I know that by talking to him prior to this helped me to be a little more calmer and less fretful. Cant fault him as a surgeon or as a consultant. The only downfall has been what goes on behind the scenes, which I totally understand is not the consultants fault at all, but something needs to be done to help sort out the missing link when a patient leaves hospital after a serious operation there is no one for them to contact and to speak to except their GP, no disrespect to GPs but to have someone else on board at the hospital to speak to would be very beneficial and would stop patients bombarding the consultants secretaries all the time, it has been very frustrating chasing up follow up appointments and trying to get to speak to some one with any concerns or worries. Please someone take note, you have a fantastic doctor here who would benefit from a little extra help behind the scenes on the admin side of things or someone to have work alongside him to deal with his patients when they are released from hospital, it is such a shame that he is a fantastic doctor, surgeon and consultant but the system goes horribly wrong when you leave such a caring professional team otherwise.... so just to sum it up, Dr Kerr, very professional, caring, understanding, brilliant and clever and certainly an asset to the neurological team at John Radcliffe.
