Total right knee replacement - age 45. I have been under the care of Mr Heaton since my late 30's when diagnosed with OA in both knees, although the right knee was more problematic than the left. Mr Heaton has supported and guided me through my issues and arthroscopies over the years, and continues to do so with excellent care. I would highly recommend Mr Heaton; he is real-life and layman in his patient care and pro-quality of life. I had concerns I was too young to have this surgery, but Mr Heaton saw the person and the positive outcome potential for the life I had to lead, not just text book guided prescriptives. He advised the best solution for my circumstances and I have not looked back. The best advice I can give though is by setting your mindset to expect to work at the physiotherapy following surgery. Surgery is only half of the solution - the other half is down to you - working hard at getting mobility, strength and flexibility back in the joint. I am 4 1/2 months post-op and am still working at this (particularly strength and some improved flexibility), but my recovery has been very good and I am thrilled and so grateful for my new knee. I'm improving every month, and it took me some confidence to trust it - particularly as my BMI is above average and this was a concern for me (questions like, 'will it break' (answer is NO by the way), 'can I get improved flexibility after 12 weeks post-op' (answer is YES if you work towards it)). Yes the surgery is painful, yes it takes work, BUT it has given me my life back and feeling good about the future again. Thank you to Mr Heaton and the excellent care by the amazing team at the Fitzwilliam who were all top-notch fabulous.
