Mr Paul Thiruchelvam is an exemplary person and surgeon. He informed me in a most understanding way that my breast biopsy result was positive for cancer which would necessitate surgery. He explained in detail the operative procedure and how the result of reconstructive surgery (mammoplasty)would look. At no time did I feel that he was rushed as he took trouble to answer my questions and understood my anxiety when I had to wait for the result of my HER2 FISH test to ascertain as to whether I might need chemotherapy before surgery. Negative result later obtained. On the day of surgery he took infinite trouble to take very exact measurement of my chest - this gave me confidence that I was in the hands of an expert. My follow up visit following surgery was positive and he gave me confidence by telling me that my prognosis is good. Together with this and indicating that I was the youngest 80 year old he'd ever seen (!) made me feel confident, determined and strengthened. I'll be ready to return to my active life when possible. Orla O'Neill , CNS, has been a great support - her empathy and understanding have been outstanding. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have had such expert care and I can never thank you enough.
