Mr Paul Goldsmith

Thank you Paul for changing my life and relieving me of acid reflux which has blighted me daily over the years. Through out that time I have tried many ways to alleviate the symptons of acid reflux. These included diet, acupuncture, plus many 'potions' nothing worked. I was referred to a consultant locally, the outcome was to take PPI'S indefinitely this I did not want. I then researched experts in this field and contacted Paul Goldsmith at the Spire Manchester. From my first consultation with Paul I felt confident he would do his best to enable me to eat normally without the constant fear of reflux. Paul treated me as an individual, he has a relaxed manner which supports easy communication. He clearly explained the steps that needed to be taken to address the issues. It was obvious that he was a Consultant at the very top of his profession. As a patient he was approachable at all times with any concerns. After an endoscopy I underwent an operation which consisted of a partial fundiplication and repair of a hiatus hernia. Four weeks post op I am eating normally, free of medication and no acid reflux-AMAZING. I am positive that the fast recovery was due to the superb surgical skills of Paul. I was also very well looked after by all the staff at the Spire Hospital in Manchester. Words alone cannot fully express how pleased I am that I made that first appointment with Paul Goldsmith. I would highly recommend him to anyone who wants to find a solution to the problem of the debilitating condition of acid reflux.

Paul Goldsmith was superb. He diagnosed me quickly, he explained the options of surgery thoroughly and put my mind at ease and made comprehensive notes on all my symptoms ahead of the surgery. Post surgery, Paul was easy to contact and answered any questions I had throughout the recovery period and the surgery itself went really well with no complications. I have endured decades of my health going down-hill, due to acid reflux impacting my quality of life and more recently I was deteriorating further still. I had been under the NHS care for 10 + years, only being offered increased medications and was told I would NOT be a candidate for any surgery. I needed help….. Following diligent checks on many consultant surgeons in this field, I finally contacted Paul Goldsmith at Spire Hospital, Manchester to discuss the RefluxStop device. From the initial consultation I knew I could put my trust in him to help bring a resolution to my suffering. He was approachable, empathetic and thorough in his assessment of my needs. He advised the RefluxStop would be the best treatment for me, and so I placed all my trust in him to fit this device and to repair a large Hiatus Hernia. From day one after the operation the improvement in my condition has been astounding. I can now eat normally and lie flat in bed with no reflux problems. I can actually sleep for around 6 hours a night instead of the 1.5 - 2.5 hours I had grown used to and I no longer take 2 x 30mg Lanzoprazole and various antacids daily, all of which is amazing. I cannot recommend Paul Goldsmith and Spire Manchester staff highly enough. Paul is friendly, welcoming, professional and a first class surgeon who I immediately felt I could trust to help me. On the day of the surgery Paul, the anaesthetist and the ward team all put me at ease, and Paul even phoned my wife afterwards to let her know I was ok, which we thought was a very personal touch. After nearly 9 years of having trouble with acid reflux and constant aching around my chest area. I finally decided to look for a specialist in this field and was told to contact Paul Goldsmith at the Spire Hospital Manchester through another doctor. Once I made an appointment with Paul regarding my symptoms he quickly came to a diagnoses. He then had me go through various tests to make sure it was has he expected. Once all the test's had been completed, I arranged another appointment with him and he went through all the findings with me. He explained the options to me and the fact that I had an Hiatus Hernia which was also causing the acid reflux problem. So within 3 weeks I had had my operation and I had also opted to have the lynx device fitted. After 4 weeks I had another follow up appointment with Paul which he explained what he wanted me to do post operation for the short term to aid quick recovery. I have found Paul to be very down to earth and also put your mind at rest because I would say he is one of the best in the country in his field. Hopefully I will see the back of this long lasting problem which I have had for a number of years for good thanks to Paul Goldsmith. Struggled with digestive issues for years. GP (eventually) referred to NHS consultant due to weight loss (2 week cancer pathway). Diagnosed with GERD . After waiting for more than 2 years to get basic testing prior surgery approval, decided to go private via RefuxUK. Contacted Paul Goldsmith who arranged tests. I have been under Mr. Goldsmith's care, including having surgery in November 2022. From the very first consultation he was amazing, kind, patient and had a fabulous way of interacting with me. I can't describe how lovely he was. The surgery was risky, in the terms of success, but Mr Goldsmith has given me my life back, which because of my painful condition, was non existant, and I pretty much had no quality of life. I haven't felt this well for about 18 months, and can now enjoy my life again.

After suffering for years with Acid Reflux and trying various PPI medication and sticking to an Alkaline Diet, I was diagnosed in April of this year with Barrett's Esophagus. I also had a Hiatal Hernia. At this point I knew I had to do something drastic, as my symptoms got more serious. It was then that I read online about the Linx device. I had a hiatal hernia repair and LINX surgery with Mr Goldsmith in February 2022. It is no exaggeration to say that the procedure has changed my life. I didn't know how much pain and discomfort I was in, or how restricted I had become in daily living until after the surgery. My nausea was such that raising my hands to wash my hair induced vomiting and my abdominal discomfort made playing the piano too painful. Now I can lie on my side and sleep through the night without heartburn, abdominal pain or nausea waking me. I can bend over, walk for miles and generally just live! For the first time in many years I can eat any food and drink alcohol without bloating or discomfort and generally feel like I have more energy. I was very nervous about the procedure but found Mr Goldsmith's approach very reasurring. From the first appointment I was put at ease, and functional tests and an endoscopy confirmed the initial diagnosis that he suggested after just 10 minutes of discussing my symptoms. Most importantly I felt like I was treated like I mattered. Before the surgery I was worried about the difficulties swallowing and oesophageal spasms that others had written about. I have experienced both, but they have been far less troubling than my symptoms pre-surgery- they are simply seconds of discomfort at occasional intervals on some days. If your symptoms are as bad as I now know mine were, don't let other people's experience of side effects put you off! Hopefully you'll be lucky like me! I met Mr Goldsmith following months of trying to manage my acid reflux symptoms. Mr Goldsmith is attentive and manages to put you at ease during consultations. I had a number of tests and Mr Goldsmith recommended the Linx device. He explained the process and that there may be ups and downs post operation. I am now three months post op and all my acid symptoms are a distant memory. Mr. Goldsmith told me that if I had any issues he was only an email or phone call away.
